Maths and English


SATS
Maths and English are vital subjects which underpin all future learning. Children who gain a good grounding in these subjects often do well at school and beyond.

Maths and English are covered in every lesson. A series of five maths and five English books are used. Performance in the test determines which book a child starts on. All pages are worked through and children only move on when they satisfactorily complete each exercise. Every piece of work is checked and corrected if necessary.

The approach to teaching maths and English is based on academic rigour, there are no distractions like computers or other new-fangled teaching aids, it is hard work and it is an approach which works well. Most children respond well to hard work when they understand what they are doing and in a class of six they have lots of opportunities to ask for help as often as they need.

All primary school-age children are taught to level 5A in maths and English.


GCSE Maths
Foundation and Higher level are taught, pupils in year 9 and above study only maths and many go on to get A and A* grades in year 10/11. A significant number of pupils have passed GCSE maths in year 9. Textbooks and exam papers are provided.

A-level Maths
Only available on a one-to-one basis (£25 per hour)
