ACE TUITION
Grammar School Preparation Since 1994Finding A Tutor
Always choose a qualified and experienced professional. Often we enrol pupils who have been 'taught' by incompetent, unqualified and unprofessional people in class sizes of 10-15, teaching inappropriate material. Such people are dishonest and should be avoided.
Always ask :
- Do you have a PGCE (this is a teaching qualification, all teachers MUST have it)
- How many years teaching experience do you have
- Have you had a recent CRB check (police background check for criminal records)
Qualified teachers are better placed to teach because they have the training and skills to impart knowledge. Teachers who have worked in schools are more likely to be familiar with the contents of the national curriculum and the different levels involved in maths and English. All children, in particular those who struggle with school work, need to be taught in way which will build their confidence and encourage them to move ahead, experienced teachers with years of practise are better able to do this.
If you have any doubts about a tutor then assume they are being dishonest. Always call the school and check if the teacher has actually worked there. You are welcome to contact the schools where I have taught (Handsworth Grammar School, Birmingham, The Harvey Grammar School, Kent and Halesowen HE College). My last CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check was carried out by Halesowen College in 2009, if you wish to see a copy of the certificate please ask.
